Spotlight: Micah DeSchepper

Jul 25, 2025

Global Experience. Local Roots. ExPat Returns to KC with a Mission to Strengthen Community Through Finance and Leadership.

Micah DeSchepper’s career has taken him across industries and continents, but it’s Kansas City that’s always felt like home.

After 15 years working with teams around the world—from fintech startups and private equity firms to manufacturing giants and SaaS companies—Micah recently moved back to KC, ready to plant roots and bring his operational and financial expertise to work that’s grounded in community.

“I never found the same feeling of connection and belonging that’s so natural here,” Micah shared. “There’s something about Kansas City that makes it feel like a place where you’re not just living, but part of something bigger.”

From Global Ventures to Local Impact

Micah’s professional path has been anything but linear—in the best possible way. He’s led digital transformation inside global corporations, helped launch new ventures, and held senior finance roles in sectors ranging from construction to banking to retail. Along the way, he’s worked with and led teams in nearly 30 countries across five continents.

That wide lens gives him a unique vantage point: how to scale operations with intention, how to lead cross-functional teams with empathy, and how to drive long-term value that benefits businesses and communities alike.

Now back in KC, Micah serves as Chief Financial Officer for one of the Midwest’s largest roofing companies. In his view, “a good CFO’s role goes beyond the numbers—it’s about creating stability that reaches beyond the walls of the business. That means consistent payrolls, investing in people, supporting local vendors, and building for the long term. In a city like Kansas City, where there’s deep pride in local businesses and a strong entrepreneurial spirit, financial leadership has the power to shape more than just bottom lines. I haven’t been back long, but my goal is to become one of those steady hands the community can count on.”

Building Community Through Business

Since moving back, Micah has wasted no time getting involved. Before even closing on a house, he was connecting with leaders at KC Tech Council, Back2KC, and local small businesses to offer support and share insights. He’s already provided strategic finance consulting to several local ventures and hopes to expand his involvement even more this year.

Micah’s passion lies in helping new ideas take root. He’s particularly energized by KC’s startup momentum and hopes to bring his global experience in accelerators, analytics, and operations to help early-stage founders build with confidence.

“I had no idea how much was happening in this community until I got involved,” he said. “It’s been amazing to see the energy around connecting people who want to make KC even better.”

What’s Next for Micah in KC?

Professionally, Micah wants to be a steady, trusted presence in KC’s business and civic ecosystem—offering thoughtful leadership, financial expertise, and hands-on support. Personally, he’s focused on building deeper relationships and re-establishing a true sense of home for his family.

Whether he’s cheering at a local skate park with his son or grabbing ice cream at City Market, he’s enjoying every part of rediscovering the city.

Advice for Newcomers?

“Come see for yourself,” Micah says. “There’s a reason people say KC is a really big small town. It’s full of people who care, collaborate, and show up—and it’s growing in all the right ways.”
