Spotlight: Samantha Jefferson

Shaping Kansas City’s Future Through Economic Development
Most would agree that Kansas City is on the brink of transformative growth—perhaps even say we’re in it—and we want you to know Samantha Jefferson is helping pave the way.
As part of the Kansas City Area Development Council (KCADC), Samantha works to attract businesses and talent to the region, driving the local economy forward.
The Journey to Kansas City
Originally from a small town in southwest Nebraska, Samantha’s path to Kansas City was anything but linear. After earning her Construction Management degree from Pittsburg State University, she spent 15 years in Phoenix, Arizona, navigating a career that spanned construction project management, business strategy, and economic development.
Samantha’s Kansas City chapter began in 2024 when her husband was hired as Deputy Secretary for the Kansas Department of Commerce. Joining KCADC was a natural fit, allowing her to bring her economic development expertise to a city poised for growth.
KCADC: Fueling Economic Momentum in KC
KCADC is the regional economic development organization that works on behalf of the entire community—two states, 18 counties, and 50+ communities—to attract business and talent, growing our economy in the process.
Samantha serves on KCADC’s business development team, focusing on emerging markets—sectors gaining momentum in the national economy that align with Kansas City’s strengths. Digital Health is a great example of an industry with deep KC roots that has now become a vital part of the national economy.
“It’s incredible to be part of a team that invites companies to create new, well-paying jobs that can be life-changing for people in KC,” Samantha says.
Community-Centered Growth
Samantha’s experience in Phoenix taught her the value of collaboration and resilience. She saw firsthand how a city could transform its identity by aligning the efforts of businesses, government, and nonprofits. Now, she brings that same determination to Kansas City, confident that the region is ready to take bold steps toward solidifying its place on the global stage.
What’s Something Surprising About KC?
“I was surprised by how much of KC has been a part of my life without realizing it. Disney, Hallmark, AMC, H&R Block… there are so many American staples with origins and HQs in Kansas City!”
Advice for Newcomers to Kansas City
“Don’t sleep on this market—make your move fast! Between career opportunities and economic trajectory, Kansas City is going to be a marquee market in the U.S.”
What Samantha Loves About Kansas City
For Samantha and her family, Kansas City offers the perfect balance: big-city amenities without the hustle and stress.
“We can enjoy cultural experiences, afford our forever home, and raise our son in a safe neighborhood with a great education system,” she shares.
Setting Goals for Growth
Professionally, Samantha plans to earn an MBA and become a Certified Economic Developer within the next five years. Personally, she hopes to get back into playing volleyball regularly.
