Tyler Goetz is part of a growing wave of professionals returning to Kansas City with big ideas and even bigger expertise. Backed by more than a decade in global market research, he’s on a mission to help local businesses grow through smarter, insight-driven strategies.
A Midwest Homecoming
Tyler grew up in Liberty, Missouri, and after earning his degree in broadcasting from the University of Missouri, he set off for Los Angeles in 2010 to pursue a career in media and entertainment. For the next 14 years, he worked in primary research and consumer insights, gathering invaluable experience in diverse markets across the globe. From Europe to Japan, LATAM, and nearly every major city in the U.S., Tyler’s work touched people from all walks of life.
The ties to his roots, however, remained strong. “The people and the relationships I have in Kansas City called me back,” Tyler says. As the city has grown and evolved, the familiar warmth and Midwestern values have remained, making it the perfect place for Tyler to continue his professional journey.
A Global Perspective with Local Impact
Tyler brings a wealth of global experience to Kansas City’s market. His career has spanned numerous regions and generations. This global perspective informs the way Tyler approaches research and enriches the insights he can offer local businesses.
“I’ve had the chance to understand consumers from so many different perspectives,” he says. “I carry those insights with me into every study I conduct, which allows me to provide a more comprehensive view for businesses looking to understand their target markets.”
Tyler is particularly excited by the energy and activity in Kansas City. “There’s such a wide variety of initiatives and groups working to build the city,” he explains. “There’s so much talent here, and I love seeing it being leveraged to foster growth in my hometown.” With its mix of tradition and progress, Kansas City has become an ideal environment for entrepreneurs, businesses, and innovators, and it’s exciting to see how enthusiastic Tyler is to be part of this dynamic change. And we are here for it!
Building Connections in KC
Tyler Made Research LLC (TMR), the company Tyler founded in LA, is making primary market research more accessible to businesses in Kansas City. TMR offers both qualitative and quantitative research services, including focus groups, in-depth interviews, playtests, and ethnographies. Through his firm, Tyler is demystifying the research process and helping companies make smarter, data-driven decisions.
“We’re happy to educate businesses on how research works,” Tyler says. “Not a lot of people understand the process, and that’s something we aim to change.” The firm’s work continues to make an impact by ensuring businesses in Kansas City have access to critical consumer insights that can drive success.
Since moving back to Kansas City, Tyler has immersed himself in the local community. He shared with us one of the most exciting projects he’s worked on recently was collaborating with Social Balances, New2KC, and his own company to conduct a market research study on the state of business in the city. The study, which took place earlier this year, revealed enlightening insights that are helping local professionals make informed decisions and contribute to the city’s ongoing growth. The insights from this research continue to inform our work and help steer meaningful progress to strengthen Kansas City’s business community.
Tyler is eager to continue this trend, expanding research accessibility for all business types in Kansas City. “I want to make research more accessible, especially for smaller businesses,” he explains. “Historically, research has been seen as too expensive or too time-consuming. I want to change that perception.”
Looking Ahead
Professionally, Tyler is focused on continuing to break down barriers for local businesses and ensure they have access to research and insights that are critical for success. Personally, he’s excited to grow his connections in Kansas City and be part of the city’s vibrant community of innovators.
His advice for others considering a move to Kansas City? “Use your existing network to start fostering and building connections here,” he advises. “Kansas City is a relationship-driven city. People are open to connecting, so be proactive and reach out if you want to talk.”
What Makes KC Unique
Kansas City’s transformation over the past 15-20 years has been nothing short of remarkable. “This city is really on the rise,” Tyler says. “It’s experienced significant growth, investment, and change, especially since around 2008. That’s not an easy feat, especially for a city with such deep traditions. KC is prime for continued innovation and growth, and I’m excited to be a part of it.”
